When Annie Gladys Butler was born on 6 February 1899 in Edmonton, Middlesex, her father, Robert Henry Butler, a shipping clerk, (1877-1930), was 21, and her mother, Annie (nee Cook 1879-1932), was 20. Her parents married at Edmonton, 3rd April 1898. The family home was Haselbury Road, Silver Street, Edmonton. For much of her life after 1918, Annie Gladys Butler was known as Gladys. She married Victor Palmer Simmonds, a van driver, (1897-1971) in July 1924. They had two children (Dorothy Gladys Simmons (1924-2014) and Peggy Simmons (1926- ) during their marriage. In 1939 they were living at Trevelyan Road, Wandsworth. Gladys died in January 1978 at the age of 78 (read more here).
