The Doré Gallery at 35 New Bond Street was originally opened in 1874 to exhibit and publicise the work of the French artist Gustave Doré (1832-1883) (more here).
The gallery closed by about the start of the First World War.
The estate of the later B. Selby Lowndes purchased an engraving by Gustave Doré of Christ leaving the Praetorium in December 1878.
