Letter to Jacob H Buckner 16th May 1914

A letter to Melvin’s father from his brother mainly concerning lack of funds.

16th of May, 1914

Dear Brother Jake:-

Your most welcome letter just received, but I did not know that you had sent Harry that money to send me.  Jake I will ask you to please send me the money and write Harry to place two dollars to your dues.  All Harry thinks of his money.  I’m here nearly three weeks and as yet I have not heard a word from Harry.  I suppose his excuse will be that he was too busy to write, but he isn’t too busy to take the money.  Do as I ask you as I need funds.  I thank you very much for your kind offer to loan me some money but I rather not known anything with no prospects to pay it back.

I am very sorry to say but today he is the first time I’ve been laid up in bed all day.  My temperature is 102 degrees.  If you write do not make any mention of it.

When you write Harry tell inform me if he is afraid to carry me on the books then he can drop my account.

I don’t give a damn what he does if money is his Lord.  I at least think he can have some consideration now I’m sick.  If I had the money I would not hold it back from him, but as I wrote it is not right for me to ask Pa for money as he is badly in need of it himself. Pa pays $300 a week here for me and then I had Camadry (?) and different things to pay for.

Well I know of nothing more to write and present so will close with love to and send Annetta.

Your loving brother,

Nlen(?)

PS please do as I asked you
